Target background:
Mouse IL-15 is a 14.5 kDa protein, previously designated as IL-T. It is a pleiotropic cytokine that is important for both innate and adaptive immune cell homeostasis, as well as peripheral immune function. Although IL-15 shares the common λ chain (λc) and IL-2/15Rβ with IL-2 signaling, it utilizes private IL-15Rα for high affinity binding. IL-15 plays a pivotal role in the development, survival, and function of the NK cell lineage. It is required for the normal expansion and/or survival of nonclassical T cells and memory phenotype TCR-α/β CD8+ T cells. It also plays a role in peripheral immune functions such as T lymphocyte trafficking, innate immune IFN- γ production, and host defense against infectious pathogens.
